Okinawa Adventures: The Month of March

We did a lot of sight seeing during the month of March. But the month’s adventures started on March 11th, when the earthquake hit mainland Japan. We knew some people who were in Tokyo for our District’s temple trip and thankfully everyone was able to return back to Okinawa safely. We weren’t really effected by the earthquake. We were under tsunami warning for a couple days, but nothing really came of it.

Above is the view from our balcony during the tsunami, but there isn’t anything exciting out there. We did notice the water was lower than usual and thought this was a result of the tsunami, but it still looks that way today. We are grateful to be safe here and pray for those who have been effected by these natural disasters.

The next morning we decided things looked better and decided not to waste a precious Saturday. We went first to the Fukushu-en Chinese Gardens, then realized we still had time and drove to the near by Shikinaen Royal Garden. There are too many pictures from both gardens and our internet is too slow to load a massive amount of pictures. So from the pictures I post, you find yourself wanting more, you’ll just have to come visit and see for yourself!

This is for Krystal! A giant giraffe slide! It’s actually at the park across the street, but we thought it was cool.

The waterfall had lots of places to hike through.

Shikinaen Royal Garden

Shikina-En was the largest second residence for the Ryukyu royal families and it was used to entertain royal family members and foreign guests. It was completely destroyed during World War II. Reconstruction was started in 1975 and it took about 20 years to complete.
