Okinawa Adventures: End of Summer

It’s been another 3 months, and I have yet to blog about the rest of the summer. Now it’s the end of the year, and we have so much to share! So here is a quick summary of the events for the rest of the summer.

Nakijin Castle and Ocean Expo Park Fireworks

A year ago, we attended the Ocean Expo Park Festival, and it was the best fireworks show we had ever seen. We wanted to make the trip for it again and see some sites up there while we were at it. We invited some friends and headed up north on the island. Our first stop was Nakijin Castle ruins. Here are some pictures of the site.

Above is a picture of the biggest earthworm we had ever seen and then Chris was attacked by a Shisa. Then we finished the night off by watching fireworks on the beach.

Babysitting Again

We had the opportunity to babysit two kids for about a week and a half. It actually turned out to be longer because we were privileged to have a Typhoon hit the weekend the parents were expected home. It wasn’t a terrible typhoon as far as damage, but being locked up in the house for 48 hours or so, does stuff to your mind – especially with kids who need to just get out and play. We played a lot of Wii and Clue to help pass the time. While we had them and before the typhoon hit, I took them to Mona Kids Play Jungle and one weekend we went to a tiny island off the shore of Okinawa. Mona Kids is like a bunch of McDonald’s Play Places in one building. You do have to pay, but it was well worth letting the children be free to run around.

Here are a few pictures of Komaka Island. It’s a tiny island that you take a glass bottom boat ride to. The only thing on the island is a restroom, so it’s a great little get-away. It’s also a great place for snorkeling. We were told that they feed the fish hot dogs and that is why they swim so close. Of course they told me this after I stuck my finger out at one and it bit me. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way.
